Keeping Memories Alive – Photo Challenge

At the end of last year, I set a goal. It wasn’t really a New Years resolution. To be honest, it was a coincidence that I set the goal in December. I guess I should have just called it a resolution. No one keeps those anyway. At least not for long. Unfortunately, this goal fell into that same bucket almost as quickly as it was made.

The idea came from an Instagram post from another blogger (@brunazahner) posted. She began a weekly photo challenge of taking a photo with her kids. Her plan was first to create memories and second was keeping those memories alive. This really resonated with me!

I used to joke that if I got hit by a bus tomorrow, the kids would never remember who I was because there were very few photos of us together. I was typically the one behind the camera. Or in true mom fashion I wasn’t “camera ready” for whatever reason and chose not to be in the photo.

Since Cameron died, the lack of photos has become very evident. We have done pretty well with just kid photos. Mostly of Cameron (7) and Melia (4) when they were together. Since Sienna (7 months) was born, just so so. I wish I had more photos of Cameron with Sienna. I wish I had more photos of the three kids together (with and without me). I also wish I had more photos of Cameron and I together. That’s a lot of wishes.

So my plan was to follow in Bruna’s footsteps. I was going to start my own photo challenge. Every week my plan was to not only take more photos, but be in more photos as well. I was going to make sure that I had photos of myself with each of my kids. Unfortunately, I never got the plan off the ground.

It’s time to resurrect the goal. Get started taking photos. It will give me something to focus on. A distraction. So my challenge to all of you, start your own photo challenge! Don’t end up with the same regrets I now have.

Are you with me?
