OK, so I realize we are already like 20 days into fall and I’m just now posting this. In my defense, we live in Florida! It still feels like summer so it’s hard to wrap my brain around the fact that it’s not (sorry…you all probably hate me). Plus, we don’t get the color of the leaves to help signal our brains.
Regardless, I’m finally posting our final fall bucket list!
The kids helped me pull this together. At least, they tried. With the lack of understanding of seasonal changes it was tough (we lived in Las Vegas before we moved to Orlando). Their ideas for fall themed activities were things like let’s go play mini golf. Or we could go swimming. Again, I’m sorry!
This was a tough list for me too! Growing up up in Pennsylvania there are some key fall activities that my kids have never experienced. Changing of the leaves. Raking (not missing much there). Jumping into the piles of leaves. These are things that really should be on our list. But they are not.
So here’s the best we could do given our location.
Fall Bucket List
- Hocus Pocus – It’s just not Halloween without these crazy witches. We will likely have some others we will squeeze in too. Like It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, Casper, or Ghostbusters. While my husband wishes it was Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street, our spookiest will likely be Goosebumps movies. I refuse to have my kids sleeping in my bed with me for the next month.
- Candy Apples – We’re going to make this tasty treat together. While my husband picked up those little caramel sheets you wrap around the apples, I’m toying with going big. If you know me, I always want to go big and set the bar high only to be disappointed. To melt our own caramels or not?! That is the question still being debated. We could do so many more fun things to decorate them.
- Corn Maze – We have this great corn maze near by. Since moving to Orlando a few years ago, we’ve made this a tradition. They offer a small kid size version with fun chalk mazes or the adult version that can take over an hour to find your way out. We did pretty good last year! The kids are excited this is on the list…like there was any question.
- Pumpkin Patch – We used to do this every year in Las Vegas when my big kids were little. We had so much fun! Since moving here, we hadn’t really found anything similar. That is until now!! It would seem there is a place not far from here that offers pumpkins, hay rides, a petting zoo. I’m trying to stay calm because this is how it all starts. I build it up in my mind only to be let down by the reality. So, we’ll see.
- Carve a Pumpkin – It just wouldn’t be Halloween if this wasn’t on the list! My husband tells me that he thinks I like this more than the kids. Last year was the first year any of them would stick their hands inside to scoop it out. This is the year I’m not doing it alone…right?!
- Fire Pit Nights – Now that the weather is getting cooler in the evenings (sorry again), we will plan some nights around the fire pit! My kids love doing this. We make s’mores or roast hot dogs. I’m hoping to get a mountain pie maker (fingers crossed I find one)!
