Mom Was Right – If My Head Wasn’t Attached…

I have a tendency of being a bit lot scatterbrained at times. Several times a day I walk into a room only to forget why. I’ve been known to start looking for my phone, to find it has been in my back jeans pocket the entire time. Don’t get me started on my loss of memory. My husband can attest to the countless “remember when” stories that I just can’t remember. I seriously worry that this thing I joke about, may someday not be quite so funny!

Like any good Mom, I blame the kids! Between barely surviving pregnancy fog and being home with 3 kids, it’s a wonder my brain even functions anymore.

Although, if I’m honest, I think I’ve always been this way. I distinctly remember one of my mom’s favorite sayings, “If your head wasn’t attached, you’d forget it!” I know it’s impossible to imagine me a normal kid that misplaced anything and everything. OK fine! I was one of those kids. Hell, I’m one of those adults! Mom was right…but don’t tell her I said that!

There is no denying it. Just today, I did one of the dumbest things I’ve done in a long time! I’m a bit embarrassed to even admit it.

This morning was like any other morning. I hustled the kids out the door for school. We were only a few minutes later than normal. The baby was even awake this morning and making the trip with us. Before you ask, I never leave the baby home alone. That’s not my “dumb thing”. She is normally not awake and stays home with Dad.

As I was hustling to buckle everyone in, I put my phone down on the trunk of the car. Ran back inside to grab lunch boxes. Quickly shoved everything onto the front seat, and pulled out of the driveway.

We have a 12 minute ride to school. When we got there, the two big kids climbed out. We collected their stuff. I left the car running as I walked them to their door (we walk less than 10 feet). Within 2-minutes, I was back in the car ready to head home.

Something told me to check my phone. A lot of times my husband will text me. Usually it’s a reminder to pick something up on my way home. I glanced to the passenger seat. No phone. I looked on the floor. No phone. Panic started to set in. Then it hit me! I never grabbed my phone off the trunk of the car!

Never have I launched out of the car so fast. You won’t even believe my luck! The phone was still there…perched ever so close to the edge.

How is that even possible?

This story had a happy ending. It tells me that either my luck is about to really turn around…or I just used up every ounce of luck we had in that 12-minute drive. I’m crossing my fingers it’s the first. Wish me luck!

Am I the only one that does stupid stuff like this? Please tell me you have too!

    1. I thought you were going to say you blame everything on your Mom. I do that. 😉 Or my kids. Haha.
