My Kids Hate Clothes!

It seems 3 is the magical age. When kids suddenly hate wearing clothes. At least it was for mine. When my oldest son (now 6) turned 3, he started sleeping in just his underwear at night. I’m not sure what the fascination was, but he gave up wearing pajamas (I apologize now to his future wife…I’ll try to fix it).

In the last year, my daughter decided she needed to do the same thing. Guess what, she was 3! I’m pretty sure she wanted to be just like her brother. She is also a little furnace so I’m sure it’s cooler to sleep that way. Regardless, she decided it was time to give up pajamas.

No big deal, right? Kind of cute, right? Well, it’s gotten worse. Way worse!

My kids would love nothing more than to just stay in their underwear all day. Let’s be honest, some days they do! It’s summertime and with a new baby we are spending a lot of days hanging out at home…practically naked (them at least). If we do leave the house, the moment we get home the clothes come off and I’ve got two kids in just underwear again.

This should thrill me. Not only does it keep my laundry pile small, but it also saves on pajama buying. Why have pajamas if they won’t wear them?

Before the baby was born, I came across a onesie that said “I party naked”. I texted a photo of it to my husband saying I should buy it. Then again, it would probably be a waste of money because she will prefer being in just her diaper.

At what age should this start to bother me? I just keep thinking when that age comes I will know it. Surely they won’t still be doing this when they are 10…13…16? Right?! It’s a good thing we live in the country with no close neighbors.

I keep telling myself this is normal. That all kids like to run around in their underwear. I’m pretty sure there are photos of me doing the same thing at their age. So I assume they will naturally outgrow it at some point. I assure you I did! Until then, we will let them be carefree and young. It makes for some great blackmail pictures later.

Are your kids part of the “I hate clothes” club?
