Newborn milestones are exciting! Seeing the new baby grow, learn new things, and experience the world. However, for this mama, they are also sad. Sienna is our 3rd baby. She will also be our last. So with every new milestone, I am reminded that it is also the last.
Today I began the sad process of cleaning out our newborn clothes. Sienna is now 4-months old. Only recently did she outgrow her 0-3 month clothing. So begins our first (and last 0-3) clothing sort.
I will admit I’m a bit of a hoarder when it comes to things like this. With my first baby, I probably had 3 totes full of old clothing by the time he was 2 that I wasn’t ready to part with. He was just so darn cute wearing it, and it reminded me of when he was that little.
Each time I cleaned clothing out, I found myself purging a little more. Then a little more. I’m now down to just 1 tote of old baby clothes. Believe it or not that includes everything for both of my big kids! I think I’ve learned how to put my emotions aside and really decide whether something was worth keeping.
That brings us to baby #3. My last baby. I definitely found it hard to decide what to keep. I now ask myself, “What is the significance of this item? Why would I keep it? In 6-months will I still feel the same about it?” Then I just have to be honest with myself as I answer.
This time, I narrowed it down to the sleeper we used at the hospital. The one she wore in my favorite hospital picture of her. Then 2 little outfits that fit her the best and she wore the most. I’m also the crazy lady that keeps 1 newborn diaper! Clean of course. I love to go back through things later and be reminded just how little they were.
That’s it! I’m actually pretty proud of myself (for now).
All of the 3-6 month clothes are now in circulation. In a few months we will be back here again…but for the next size. If only I could pause time…freeze her growth. Just for a little while.
How do you decide what to keep and what to get rid of?

I hear ya! I feel like I’m constantly buying new bins for my daughter’s clothing. I feel like she owns way too many clothes even if I do have another girl someday. For now, I’m just keeping everything that is not stained!
I did that initially as well…planning to have stuff when the next one came along. My first was a boy. Second was a girl. That helped me purge quite a bit. Then my 3rd was a girl. I had already purged almost everything so we started over this time. Can’t win! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by.
