The Liebster Award – My Nomination

The Liebster award is given by bloggers to other bloggers. It’s not so much an award as a way to connect and show support for each other in the blogging world. It can be a fun way to promote your blog among your peers. Readers get a chance to check out some new blogs (because I will only nominate those I love). Plus, you get to learn more random facts about me. Fun?! I guess we will see.

I was excited to receive my nomination from a new fellow mom blogger. You can check out her blog at A Mother Blogger. I enjoy following her on Instagram as AMotherBlogger. Her daughter is adorable, and the photos she takes are beautiful. If you are a new mom, definitely check her out!

As part of the Liebster Award, I have been given a list of questions to answer…just for fun! Here are my responses (sorry if some of them are a bit depressing).

1. Describe yourself in one word.

Sarcastic.

2. If you could change anything in your past, what would it be?

Cameron’s death. It was so unexpected. I would do anything to change that outcome. I will forever carry guilt that I wasn’t a raving, over-the-top, obnoxious parent that night. I’m not sure it would have helped. Being at a hospital there was a false sense of security. Looking back I question so much. It makes me incredibly sad. Like I failed him (though I know in reality I didn’t). He was only 7-years old. I miss him so much and am completely broken by it.

3. What has been the biggest accomplishment in your life to date?

Surviving my son. It is a daily struggle. My worst nightmare that I live through every day.

4. If you won a million dollars today, what would you immediately spend it on?

I would have a list of home projects a mile long (new landscaping, painting, remodel projects). Then a new car. There would be a certain amount I would allow myself to play with (shopping, vacation). Then the rest would be invested.

5. Who’s your best friend? What makes him/her so?

I’m very lucky to have so many amazing friends in my life that I love dearly. However, my BFF is Monica. She’s my person. We support each other unconditionally. We both have the same unrealistic expectations when it comes to things we’ve planned or events we attend. Usually we end up somewhat disappointed at our own doing (we set the bar so high in our mind that nothing can compare). We love each other’s kids like our own. When she heard Cameron wasn’t going to make it last Christmas, she was booking a plane ticket and packing to fly out immediately. She has seen my crazy and yet she is still here. Maybe that makes her a little crazy?! Everyone needs a BFF like her!

6. What are the simplest things in life that make you happy?

Hearing my kids giggle and laugh. Hugs. Sleeping in (which I don’t do much anymore). Chocolate peanut-butter ice cream (must be Haagen-Daaz).

7. The best place you’ve ever been?

Hawaii. We love the Big Island. It’s where my husband proposed. We went to the Volcano National Park. It was incredible standing literally on the edge of a black lava cliff. You could feel the waves crashing below. No railings. It was quite scary and beautiful all at once. The photo doesn’t do it justice. We took it while standing at the very edge looking down the coast.

8. What was your fondest childhood memory?

Growing up with lots of cousins around. They were instant best friends. We have so many memories of playing together, slumber parties, birthday parties, and family gatherings. It makes me sad that we live so far away from family so my kids won’t have these same memories.

9. A memory you would like to erase?

None of them. Every thing I’ve gone through up to this point has made me the person I am today. Has shaped me. Whether good or bad. I wouldn’t want to erase any of them.

10. What do you think of social media?

I definitely have an addiction. Most times I don’t do a very good job balancing it. There is good and bad in it. I love that I can keep in touch with so many people that I may otherwise not see very often. It is a blessing when your kids are growing up away from family. However, it has turned us into a narcissistic culture. Also, news travels sometimes faster than it should. The day of Cameron’s death, I felt pressured to post before we were ready to let the world in. I didn’t want information released unless it came directly from us. Things I never should have been concerned with on that day. So I’d say it is a love/hate relationship with social media.

11. Favorite food in the whole world.

Good Mexican food. It is hard to come by sometimes, especially in Florida. We are always looking for good Mexican restaurants.

And my nominees are:

  • Chrissy @ Licensed to Muse – She shares her innermost thoughts on the people she meets and the situations she encounters. Her spin on life is hilarious. I love her sarcasm (I’m sensing a theme here). I often find myself LOL’ing.
  • Jenay @ 4 Amusing Muses – She is raising 4 boys and life is never dull. I love her sarcasm and realistic portrayal of motherhood. Sometimes reading her posts I feel like we are the same person. She cracks me up.
  • Carmen @ Fit4Twins –  Mom to twins. She recently started a series featuring “Supermom’s” and their stories. I love that she shows every day women in a positive and inspiring light. So needed in a world where everyone is judged so harshly.
  • Bruna @ Country Life With the Zahners – I enjoy following her on Instagram. Her kids are adorable, and they are always up to something fun. She is all about family memories and country living. There are some yummy looking recipes thrown in sometimes, too.
