At Home Movie Theater Night – Kid Activity

This is the perfect rainy day activity! Instead of just popping in a movie, we recreate a trip to the movie theater with our own movie theater night. The kids LOVE it.

To make it very official, they each get their own bag of money. I give even amounts of each coin. They will need it to pay for their movie tickets and visit the concession stand for snacks. We even work in some education because we talk about the coins and how much they are worth as they are paying.

I set up a concession stand for snacks. We typically go authentic with candy and popcorn. You could also swap out for more healthy options. Shopping at Family Dollar I always find cheap movie theater snack candy boxes. This is also where I picked up some popcorn containers and a roll of tickets. To make it fancier, I pull out some of my serving dishes for fun.

Once everything is set up, I officially open for business. The kids come in with their money and make their purchases. Typically I price tickets at 50 cents, drinks and popcorn at 25 cents each, and penny candy in a bag. They love being in charge of their choices.

Then they get escorted into their seats on the couch and I collect their tickets as the movie starts. Always a hit!

    1. Glad you enjoyed your movie night! They feel like such big kids when they can “spend” their own money.
