Looking for a great way to cool off on a hot day? How about some shaved ice!
Shaved ice is near and dear to my heart. My husband and I got engaged and spent our honeymoon in Hawaii. They have the best shaved ice. While there we probably had some every day! Each year we like to celebrate our anniversary with shaved ice.
We found it’s sometimes tough to find places here in the states that have it, especially that are good. Solution? Make it at home. So we found a great flavor recipe made with Kool Aid and bought a shaved ice machine (less than $30).
You will need to do a little prep work. First, you need ice. Our machine has their own trays/forms to fit inside. If you don’t have a machine, make sure you have lots of ice for your blender to chop it finely.
Next, you will need something to store the flavor in. We use the plastic ketchup/mustard bottles (dollar store). The flavoring will need time to cook and cool.
And no shaved ice is complete without sweetened condensed milk drizzled over the top! It gives an extra sweet touch. Yum! Just put it in a plastic bottle too.
Flavor Recipe
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 Kool Aid packet (0.13 ounce)
Mix the sugar and water in a small pan. Bring it to a boil and cook about 1 minute. Let it cool and store it in the refrigerator. Repeat with each flavor desired.
To top off the party, we have a fun tiki bar set up. It was a party store my husband made for a surprise when we realized we couldn’t find a good shaved ice place here. Oh, and don’t forget the fun plastic margarita cups (dollar store)!
Just shave the ice. Fill your cup. Add your desired flavorings – multiple is fun! Then don’t forget to drizzle the top with sweetened condensed milk. You will want a spoon for all this goodness!
